The above semi-abstract broadscaped across three canvases celebrates the dazzling Australian summer light, colour, expansiveness; the excitement of crowded Australian beaches in full sun. Colour combines with collaged forms— glazed mirages of themselves. Apart from its aesthetic tangerine harmonies and discords, the composition places the enigma of light and energy within the equally enigmatic terms of painting and complex interconnectedness. Science thinks it understands light and energy, yet these words (‘light’ and ‘energy’) are defined in even more nebulous terms and abstractions; in one sense, he who speaks does not know, and he who knows speaks in the language of riddles, rhymes and music. |
